Acronym
PeDeSI

Description
The Person-Centered Dermatology Self-care Index (PeDeSI) was developed by Cowdell et al in 2012. It consists of 10 questions that assess patient knowledge about the disease and treatments (adverse effects, onset of effectiveness, repeat prescriptions, when to seek help, application of topical treatments) and confidence using treatments alone at home. The patients respond to each question with a score from 0 to 3, where 0 represents “no ability to do the task” and 3 represents “full ability to do the task.” This generates a score ranging from 0 to 30. Scores 0 to 10, 11 to 20, 21 to 29, and 30 are interpreted as the patient requires intensive, some, limited, or no education and support, respectively. Based on the response of the patient and the total score, the physician or pharmacist can (1) determine the abilities that the patient needs to work on, (2) identify topics that should be discussed with the patient, and (3) develop an action plan to meet identified education and support needs.

KAP

Description
Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices are measured using a specific instrument called a Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) questionnaire. Using KAP-modelled instruments, investigators can identify misconceptions in the population concerning a certain topic such as tranquilizer use, determine medically inappropriate attitudes and recognize medically inappropriate practices. KAP questionnaires are therefore the cornerstone to assess the need for prevention programs aimed at improving certain health-related issues including the rational use of tranquilizers and to design and evaluate these programs.

CART-Q

Description
CART-Q was used to assess how athletes believe the coach perceives the athletic relationship with them. The questionnaire consists of 11-item meta-perspective items and 3 sub-dimensions: meta-closeness (4 items; e.g., “My coach likes me”), meta-commitment (3 items; e.g., “My coach is committed to me”), and meta-complementarity (4 items; e.g., “My coach is responsive to my efforts during training”). The direct version of the questionnaire also includes 11 direct-perspective items (3 items for direct-closeness; e.g., “I like my coach”; 3 items for direct commitment; e.g., “I am committed to my coach”; 3 items for direct complementarity; e.g., “When I am coached by my coach, I am responsive to his/her efforts”). For this study, the factorial structure of the Arabic version of the CART-Q was used in Kuwait and was prepared with both direct and meta perspectives. The items were assigned a score ranging from 1 (strongly agree) to 7 (strongly disagree) with a mid-point of 4 (half-way).
