The scale consists of eight items, which measure patient coping strategies with the disease in terms of accommodating limitations imposed by the illness, negative self-value caused by the disease, and thoughts that others are uncomfortable being around patients because of the disease. The patient rates each item 1 to 5, where 1 represents full agreement and 5 represents full disagreement.
